Class of ’88 – 25th Anniversary Update

Well 5 years have passed once again and it is time for our class to reunite for a weekend of fun and reminiscing about old times. With many people suggesting to have more of a casual reunion weekend we have decided to change this year and do a cookout style party. We are finalizing details for the weekend but we wanted to get out preliminary details so everyone can make arrangements in their schedule so they can attend. Basic details of weekend are as follows:

-Friday August 23: Elida vs LCC Football game
Gathering at local restaurant or Downtown Rally

-Saturday Aug 24: Golf outing in am
Cookout in evening at Bill Leahy’s

Echoes of Gomer School on TV44

We are pleased to announce that WTLW TV44 will air a broadcast version of “Echoes of Gomer School” again in June thanks to the response!

“We’re excited to share this documentary with all of Northwest Ohio, as it will help to reconnect Gomer Bobcats and also share the story of how small schools and their towns were connected before massive mergers in the 1960′s ended many small community schools in Ohio” said John Ondo the producer of the documentary. The DVD/BluRay is being offering for sale at ElidaMemories.com includes and additional ten minutes of interviews and footage of the school which is not in the broadcast version. The documentary was produced by Ondo Media which specializes in films which help document the past while helping non-profits raise money.

WTLW TV44 covers all of Northwest Ohio and has been a strong supporter of local schools. We encourage everyone to contact and support TV44 and thank them for airing this documentary!

A touching part of the 2013 ceremony at Elida this past Sunday was the presentation of a large portrait of the old Elida High School to be displayed in the new high school. The class of 2013 holds its place in history as attending both the new and old schools both for two years a piece. Baseball Legend, Jim Martz featured in Echoes of Gomer

Great article today in the Lima News about Gomer Baseball legend Jim Martz. Jim shares some of his memories about growing up and playing baseball in Gomer. See the debut of Echoes of Gomer School tomorrow night (May 18) in Gomer at 8pm at the Gomer United Church of Christ and pick up a copy while you’re there.

Our last reunion wasn’t well attended, and officers have sort of given up on future ‘official’ reunions. We have had a couple of informal events, meeting at Homecoming game etc. and we are going to try through facebook and the last list the officers had, to reach out to as many classmates as we can to organize something this summer. anyone interested in helping or knowing more details should contact me either through email: tesajordan@gmail.com or on facebook.

An informal night of snacks and “catching up” will be at 6:30 on Friday evening at the Milano Cafe on Elida Road. Dinner and “Do You Remember?” trivia game will be on Saturday evening. Doors open at 5:30 on July 27th and dinner at 6:00. There will be ’70′s music, slide show of pictures, great food, and fun!

Gomer Film Premiere now open to the public

Due to the interest from the public, the premiere of the film “Echoes of Gomer School” which is part of the Gomer Alumni Reunion, is now being open to the public. The film will be run after the Gomer Alumni meeting adjourns at 8pm at the Gomer United Church of Christ 7350 Gomer Rd. Gomer, OH 45809-9702. Echoes of Gomer is a film that documents the history of Gomer School and the days when small towns and small schools were one. The film runs for 37 minutes and filmmaker and Elida graduate, John Ondo will be on hand with copies for sale to benefit the Gomer Alumni Associate.
